In many minds, the great challenge of this time is to prevent a depression.  In order to do this, it is of central importance that protectionism not be permitted to rise from the grave.  The Senate voted on an amendment to remove the pernicious "Buy American" provision from the stimulus.  This provision would not only harm our economy on the face of it, but possibly bring economic disaster by resulting in retaliation from our trading partners and a trade war.  This is the last thing we need during a recession and would hurt many more American jobs than it helps.  See how your Senator voted.
